Samsung To Source Galaxy S8 Batteries from Japanese Supplier : Report says

Users will be aware of choosing Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphones after Note7 battery failures last year. In a bid to ensure no short-circuiting and explosion of the batteries, Samsung has now decided to source batteries for its Galaxy S8 flagships from a Japanese company.

A recent report in Korea Economic Daily, while citing some well-placed industry sources, has revealed that the South Korean giant has switched to a new battery supplier – The Murata Manufacturing Company. This is the same company which acquired Sony’s battery manufacturing subsidiary last year.

The report further said that Samsung will acquire over 2-8% of the total number of batteries required for the whole batch of Galaxy S8 devices.

A Nikkei report has also said that Murata may supersede Amperex to be one of the important suppliers of Samsung Galaxy S8 batteries. However, that solely depends upon the length of negotiations.

A larger part of the batteries will be developed by Samsung SDI – a Samsung subsidiary, responsible for producing the batteries of its smartphones.
