A new report from South Korean reveals that Samsung Galaxy S8 will sport an autofocus front-facing camera. If this is true, then we are going to see a front camera development from Samsung after quite a while.
The report further conveys that the future camera will use encoder type of focus mechanics that the traditional voice coil motor. Here, the focusing actuator is mounted on the side of the lens rather than in the middle. This makes the camera module lower in terms of depth.
In general, voice coil motors are used in primary cameras where the depth is considerably smaller. Therefore, a camera hump can be used if it does not fit. However, this is not true for front cameras because no one will like a camera sticking out of the display.
