At last, Samsung finally officially announced its W2017 Android flip phone. The last high-end Android flip phone was released in the same 2016 event, W2016 by Samsung. In some way or other, the 2017 flip phone leaked various times since June before its official announcement for the Chinese market. By judging its predecessors, it seems that the flip phone will be confined to the Chinese market exclusively.
The 4.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED device will come with two touchscreens, one inside and one outside. As far as the camera is concerned, there will be a 12MP rear camera with 4K video recording support and a 5MP front camera. Being backed by a 2300 mAh battery, the 4G LTE phone will be protected by a metal frame. The phone will run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS.
The W2017 device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 and 4GB RAM. The device is expected to offer an internal storage of 64GB and support expandable storage as well. Further, the flip phone will return the clamshell design, popular years ago.
Though pricing is yet to be announced, we assume the rate to be around $2953 (CNY 20000), which is, in fact, higher than previous year’s W2016 price, $1,476 (CNY 9999).
