Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Redmi, has announced that it is working on a revolutionary new 300W fast charging technology that will surpass all current high standards in the market. This announcement comes just four months after Realme unveiled the first smartphone that crossed the 200W charging mark, and it seems that Xiaomi is not willing to be left behind in the race to develop the fastest charging technology.
Redmi has revealed that it is working on a device that can charge from 0 percent to 100 percent in just under five minutes, which is an incredible feat. To showcase the potential of this technology, Redmi used a modified Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition smartphone that is equipped with a 4,100mAh battery pack. The device managed to hit a 50 percent charge level in just 2 minutes and 11 seconds, with a full charge being reached in just under 5 minutes. The video teaser shared on Weibo shows the device hitting a peak charging rate of 290W for about three seconds.
The adapter for the 300W charger comes with double GaN technology, which provides more than 50 safety protections despite featuring a compact form factor. It is likely that the charger caps out at 290W due to safety reasons or battery health protection.
While Redmi has yet to announce when it will unveil a smartphone with this technology, the teaser confirms that the technology is basically ready, and we can expect it to hit the market soon. This new charging technology is a significant step forward in the smartphone industry and could potentially revolutionize the way we charge our devices. With this technology, users will be able to charge their phones in a matter of minutes, saving them a lot of time and hassle.
