ZTE is gearing up for the upcoming release of the nubia Z50 Ultra. The device will feature a 4th-generation under-display camera, marking a significant technological advancement in the smartphone industry.
Ni Fei, President of Mobile Devices at ZTE, revealed the development of the nubia Z50 Ultra in a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. According to Fei, the nubia brand has been in the smartphone business for over a decade, and the new Ultra will be the “culmination of nubia technology,” with a new solution that has been in development for six years.
The nubia brand is partially owned by ZTE, and its operations in China are controlled by the company. ZTE has been experimenting with under-display cameras for some time, with devices like the Axon 20 and the Red Magic 7 Pro featuring the technology. However, the nubia Z50 Ultra will be the first all-around flagship with this feature.
Schematics of the nubia Z50 Ultra have been leaked online, revealing a rectangular camera island on the left-hand side of the device with pointy edges and flat sides. The device will also feature a notification/alert slider with a rough texture, a speaker grille, a SIM slot, a USB-C port, and an IR blaster.
The phone was previously spotted in a spy photo, and we expect to see it announced sometime next month. With the nubia Z50 Ultra, ZTE is set to compete with other smartphone makers that have been working on under-display camera technology, including Samsung, Xiaomi, and Oppo.
