Not long ago Xiaomi grabbed the headlines for using Snapdragon 636 in Redmi Note 5 Pro. Now it seems the company wants to refresh the lineup with an upgraded Snapdragon 638 processor. A new Xiaomi smartphone with codename “valentino” with Snapdragon 638 has been spotted on Geekbench.
Well, we haven’t heard about Snapdragon 638 before but if the Geekbench listing is true then Qualcomm will launch Snapdragon 638, an improved version of Snapdragon 636. This isn’t the first time for Qualcomm to refresh a chipset lineup as they have done it previously with Snapdragon 650 lineup. Snapdragon 638 SoC is an octa-core chip and comes with a clock speed of 1.44 GHz.
The Geekbench listing shows the device is running on Android 8.1.0 and it will feature 6GB of RAM. The single-core score is 1485 while on multi-core the device scores 5440.
Currently, it is not clear in which device Xiaomi will launch this processor and before launching this device Qualcomm have to first announce Snapdragon 638 SoC. Xiaomi is launching Redmi S2 in a few days and it is evident that the device will not feature this chip.
