Qualcomm Snapdragon processors are the first choice for the majority of the smartphone companies as well as the smartphone users. But installing a Snapdragon chip inside a phone is not easy according to the Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun. The flagship chip’s price is very high and there are so many technical difficulties that needed to solve to have a proper installation.
According to Lei Jun, during the research and development of the mobile phones, the Qualcomm chip was not ready for installation. So the company had to participate in the testing phase and fix the bugs. The workload was very high so the company had to set up a research and development team for the chip to ensure the project quality and progress. According to him, whoever the manufacturer is, the process of launching a flagship chip is very difficult.
He also added the cost of the flagship Snapdragon chip is very high which is the only drawback. Currently, one Snapdragon 845 chip costs more than 500 yuan ($79.42) including all the taxes which is three times higher than Snapdragon 660 chip.
