Today, Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI Security analyst who is largely considered as the next-generation analyst on the subject of Apple products, disclosed his expectations on 2017 iPhones in brief. According to
Apple Insider, Ming believes that 2017 iPhones will come with a superior glass protection on both sides and will feature stainless steel edges.
Apple has not made any changes in iPhone design for the last three years so earlier this year; Ming predicted that iPhone 7 wouldn’t have many attractive selling points. It is true that though the iPhone 7 models are initially well received, its sales have slowed down against the 6S models.
This week, we have got news on Apple’s iPhone 8, which will come with radical redesigning. However, the notion of all glass protection is not new because of the current iPhone; iPhone 7 Plus features a glossy glass finish.
Ming explained that due to technical blockages, an all glass finish wouldn’t be possible so there will be the use of some metal frame to accompany the glass finish. Either way, it is confirmed that Apple will accept stainless steel and ditch aluminum. Steel costs more than aluminum, so it will give a premium finish to the high-end handset. Further, Ming expects only the upcoming high-end iPhone model to feature both glass framework and stainless steel edge protections; otherwise, it will be only a simple glass framework protection. We have to wait and see to know whether the high-end model implies Pro model or pricier Plus model.
According to a different rumor, one of the upcoming iPhone might feature OLED display; we have to wait for leaks to know more about it.
