BHIM app is an endeavor to take India a step closer to smart digitization, an ambition that has been aggressively taken up by the Prime Minister. The application was launched on December 30, enabling the users to do easy, fast and secure transactions using mobile phones, irrespective of an internet connection. PM Narendra Modi, while exuding great confidence in the app’s potential, said that BHIM app will allow the users to make payments using only the thumbprint.

As of now, BHIM app is only compatible with only Android devices, and is well-primed to get launched for iDevices on January 10.

BHIM app is developed by the National Payments Corporation of India, and has been named after the creator of Indian Constitution – Dr. BR Ambedkar.

The payment gateway is the easiest of the sorts. The application necessitates the users to create a pin to gain access into the system, and also requires them to enter their verified phone numbers before initiating any transaction. The third protective layer is of the authentication pin, much like an OTP, which is necessary for the successful completion of the transactions.

A transfer on BHIM can be completed in the following ways – through a QR code, through a phone number, or the UPI address. At present, transactions can be made using a single account only. However, the users have been given an option to change the bank account at any point of time. In addition to this, BHIM application is available in Hindi and English languages. However, its multi-lingual version is in the offing, and is expected to hit the markets soon.
