As per reports from renowned market research firm, Strategy Analytics, in the 2nd quarter of 2016, the market share of global Android Smartphone went up to 88%, crossing last year’s figure (84.1%). On the other hand, the 3rd quarter result of 2016 shows that Apple’s iOS has lost a share of its market going down to 12.1% against last year’s 13.6%.
Similarly, Android Smartphone shipments saw a growth at the rate of 10.3%, and iOS saw a declination at the rate of 5.2%.
Strategy Analytics Executive Director, Neil Mawston concluded “Android’s gain came at the expense of every major rival platform. Apple iOS lost ground to Android and dipped to 12 percent share worldwide in Q3 2016, due to a lackluster performance in China and Africa.”
Strategic shifts lead BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows Phone almost to disappear from the competition, while Tizen and other emerging platforms were observed to soften due to limited product portfolios and lack of proper developer support.
